Bake: Strawberry Shortcake
When Stephen said he bought a bunch of delicious strawberries at the Wicker Park Farmer’s Market, I couldn’t stop thinking of what dessert I was going to steal them to make. And after a little recipe searching, I decided to keep it simple and southern. Hence, strawberry shortcake from this recipe.

Drink: White Oak 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon
Okay, so I’m a little biased because this is a Winestyr wine, but it was pretty delicious. Definitely a typical Cab, with lots of berry flavor and a nice amount of tannin. Also, I paired it with a frozen supreme pizza (classy lady!), so if it can make Tombstone taste better, I can’t even imagine how it would pair with real, functioning adult food.
It’s not available on the site right now, but the new vintage should be in soon. Until then, check out the other Cabs on the site.

Hey Developers!
Winestyr Overview
The wine buying experience is broken. Buying wine from a grocery store or wine shop sucks, and snooty sales people do not help consumers discover new wines they might love. Winestyr connects great wine producers directly with consumers, cutting out the middlemen and providing a wine experience focused on helping consumers find great wines with no bullshit.
Job Overview

We work out of a beautiful loft in River West, are a pet-friendly office, and you will get to drink a ton of wine! This is an excellent opportunity to join a lean, hungry team at a very exciting time.

Eat: Bluebird // Wicker Park
If the wine and beer list doesn’t completely intimidate you, I’m impressed. It was a bit overwhelming, but eventually I found a wheat beer that was delish. Tried mussels for the first time and was impressed, but what really sold me were the fries (ahem, frites). Ridiculously tasty. I probably could have eaten just those for dinner and I would have been perfectly happy.

Bake: Samoa Bars
I was looking for a tasty, little bit over-the-top recipe to make for a cookout a few friends were hosting and this was pretty perfect. (I try to save the crazy caloric recipes for when I know I’m going to share). These were really simple to make but dirtied quite a few dishes, which was a little annoying since I no longer have a dishwasher. But the bars were a hit at the cookout and the office, so it was worth it.
Find the recipe here! (Also stole the photo from their blog, so thanks!)

Read: Ford County by John Grisham
Somehow, in my 18-ish years of literacy, I had never actually read a John Grisham book. But at the recommendation of one of my co-workers, I dove in with his book of short stories about a small, southern town. Each story was incredibly different, but all were pretty intriguing. The most moving, though, was the final story about a former resident diagnosed with AIDS who came back from city life to spend his final days. Highly recommend the book, and I plan on delving further into some Grisham novels this summer.
